Organization Overview

The primary mission of Southwest Johnson County EDC is to stimulate economic growth by demonstrating to new and existing companies the unique business advantage of a southwest Johnson County location. Johnson County is the fastest growing county in Kansas with a population forecasted to grow from 500,000 in 2005 to 700,000 in 2025. Through a single point of contact, the EDC connects businesses with land and opportunity in Southwest Johnson County.

Southwest Johnson County is the ideal location for industrial, warehouse and distribution facilities – as well as the ancillary services like retail and restaurants that support those businesses. SWJCEDC packages, markets and sells the region locally, regionally, nationally and beyond.

A collaboration among the City of Gardner, Kansas and New Century AirCenter, the economic development organization in Southwest Johnson County is responsible for landing businesses and driving growth. By attracting investment from companies that bring quality jobs to the area, economic development increases the commercial tax base.

As the central distribution point with national and international access to transportation of goods via land, air and rail, Southwest Johnson County is at the intersection of connection. Logistically located just outside of Kansas City in Johnson County – the economic engine of Kansas – Southwest Johnson County is at the crossroads of opportunity. With available and affordable land, a productive workforce and proximity to all modes of transportation, Southwest Johnson County is perfectly positioned as the hub of the heartland.
